Jesus calls us to be like little children. What does that mean? Children trust their parents. They don’t worry about how they are going to get food, clothing, toys, or where they will find shelter, love, or protection. They trust their parents will provide everything that they need to be safe and healthy. We are called to trust God as our loving Father who will provide for us just like an earthly father does.

How do we know the voice we are hearing is God’s voice? God’s voice does not lead to confusion or despair. We should not be anxious or afraid. When children are afraid, they turn to their parents for comfort and protection. Just like children, we need to turn to God when we are afraid or anxious for comfort and protection because we are His children. He will give us peace and strength to persevere through any hardship we may endure.

What are commandments? Commandments are like rules. They are not meant to limit us but to protect us. Like locking your house when not home, not going into a swimming pool without an adult who can swim when you are young and learning to swim. Like staying where your parents can see you and not going with strangers. These rules are meant to protect us. God wants to protect us. That’s why He gives us commandments to follow.

What boxes do I put myself in? What are my strengths? What are my struggles? How can I overcome my struggles? Our spiritual relationship is like a muscle. It needs to be exercised regularly to maintain and grow.
